Engagement Photoshoot in Austria
Between the yes and the wedding sits one of the happiest stretches of your life, and Austria is a very good place to photograph it. An engagement session here doubles as a pre-wedding shoot: the Belvedere gardens before the gates get busy, the Mirabell parterre at opening hour, a vineyard terrace above the Danube in the Wachau, the wine road hills of South Styria in October. Use the pictures for save-the-dates, your wedding website, or simply as your first proper portraits as an engaged couple. Sessions start from €279 and run 60 to 120 minutes, with one- to two-hour packages roughly €279-€450. Many couples planning an Austrian wedding book the session on a venue-scouting trip and meet their photographer months before the day itself.

How far in advance should we book our engagement photoshoot?
For Vienna and Salzburg in May and June, for the Wachau during apricot blossom in April, and for the Advent weeks from late November, book four to eight weeks ahead — those are the dates that fill first. The rest of the year, two to three weeks is usually enough, and the mountains stay flexible outside the ski holidays. If you are combining the session with a venue-scouting trip, book as soon as the dates are fixed; the exact time and route can be settled later in the chat with your photographer. Short notice is still worth a try — Photo Austria can check the whole vetted roster for your date at once.
Can we use engagement photos for our save-the-dates?
Yes, and it is one of the main reasons couples book. You receive high-resolution files with personal usage rights, which covers printed cards, your wedding website, guest apps and social posts. Say up front that save-the-dates are the goal and your photographer will deliberately shoot wider frames with empty space for text, mix portrait and landscape orientations, and include a few images that still read at postcard size. The two of you small against the Hallstatt shore, or on a Wachau vineyard terrace with the Danube behind, makes an announcement people keep on the fridge. Delivery usually takes days rather than weeks, so the cards can go out quickly.
What's the difference between an engagement and couples session?
In practice they are the same product: same length, same starting price of €279, same photographers. The difference is intent. An engagement session usually has deliverables behind it — save-the-dates, a wedding website, images that match the look of the wedding you are planning — so your photographer will shoot cleaner compositions, remember the ring, and sometimes echo your venue's colours. A couples session is looser and simply documents the trip and the two of you as you are. Say which one you mean when booking and the plan follows; plenty of couples honestly want both, and an hour and a half is usually enough to cover them.
Can we combine our engagement session with wedding scouting?
It is the smartest way to plan an Austrian wedding. One trip gives you three things: the photos, a trial run with a photographer you might hire for the day itself, and local knowledge you cannot get from a website — which Wachau terrace faces the sunset, when the Salzburg old town is quietest in August, whether a mountain venue is reachable in April or still under snow. Most couples shoot in the morning and tour venues in the afternoon with fresh eyes. If you later book the same photographer for the wedding through Photo Austria, you will already know each other, and that shows in how relaxed the wedding pictures look.
