St. Anton's pedestrian village street under the Galzig is the easiest, with the Rendl slope catching afternoon sun across the valley. The Valluga platform at 2,811 metres gives the whole pass in one frame. In Lech, the young Lech river and the Gothic tower of St. Nikolaus stand together, with car-free Oberlech on the slope above. Zürs and the galleried Flexenstrasse cut into the cliff are the drive between them.

In winter the valleys are deep and the sun is low, so the usable window is roughly ten to three, and the Rendl side of St. Anton keeps the light longest. In summer the meadows are best in the last two hours of daylight. Late June and July bring flowers; September is clear; the season is thin in May and November, when many lifts and much of Zürs are closed for the changeover.

The link is the Flexenstrasse, a road cut into the cliff in galleries, about twenty-five minutes by car from St. Anton to Lech; buses run the same route. It is kept open in winter but closes for avalanche risk, so check conditions before booking both sides of the pass.
