It is vertical rather than long. The town is terraced into the gorge, so moving between levels means stairs, steep lanes and a few short lifts, and a hundred metres on the map can be a ten-minute climb. Wear grip, especially in winter, when the steps ice up. Restoration around the Straubingerplatz closes sections from time to time, so check what is open before the day.
